She was born in Wilson, North Carolina, and grew up in Chesapeake, Virginia. In addition to her children's books, she has written poetry and published technical training manuals. She began writing the Sweetie's Place series in 1998 but did not publish her work until 2003. She decribes her stories as gifts from God. "I just woke up one morning with this story in my head and I couldn't get rid of it. I had to write it and actually completed the first book, Sweetie's Place: A Moving Adventure, in less than half a day," Dyahnne explained. "I had never considered writing a children's book before that. I had, however, dreamed of writing my memoirs and having it become a best selling novel," she chuckled. "I never know what the next book will be about until the story pops into my head. So far, all of the stories have to do with children facing new and/or difficult situations, but who knows what direction they will take in the future." Great read, whether you're moving or not., July 11, 2008 By Joycelyn Taylor-Hines (Atlanta, GA) - I highly recommend this book. My two daughters (8 and 10) and I enjoyed it very much. We recently moved from New Jersey to Atlanta. It would have been great if we could have had it before the move just so we could have used some of the great ideas that Sweetie's parents used to help her prepare. Sweetie experienced the same range of emotions that my daughters did, especially my 8 year old. Actually, I did too, but don't tell my girls. The dialogue between the characters was great and the pictures were very nice. We enjoyed the adventure. We love Sweetie. Excellent Childrens Book, July 10, 2008 By Brian Powell -
Sweetie's Place is an excellent book for children that are faced with relocation. Sometimes, we forget how difficult and devastating moving can be for a child when all of sudden they are faced with new surrounding and unfamiliar faces. With all the moves and transition we are faced with every day especially our military families, I found this book to be extraordinary helpful before, during, or after any relocation transition for parents and children.
This is an excellent book that is written with thoughtfullness of our children, along with interactive exercises for children whether in a relocation transition or for just great fun reading. The book also help children that are not moving to empathize with children that are new to their neighborhood. Just a wonderful read!
Dyahnne has done an exceptional job with this book. The book displays excellent illustrations for children. As an adult, I enjoy the illustrations as well as the book. I say "buy it, you will not be disappointed."
BOOK: ALL ABOUT AISHA
All About Aisha is the second book in the Sweetie's Place adventure series. In this book, Sweetie's plans to have a sleep-over with her best friend, Aisha, hits a snag because Aisha is a foster child. As the story continues, you will learn a little about Aisha's past, her present situation, and her hope for the future. This is an extremely emotional and heartwarming story of the power of love and kindness. Sweetie's mother and father, along with Aisha's foster mother, and with the help and guidance of a very kind social worker, work together to wade through the unknown waters of the system to make sure that the sleep-over happens. Sweetie comes to realize how different Aisha's life is from her own and also realizes just how lucky she is to have her family to take care of her. Recommended Ages: 6-11

Why do we celebrate all of these holidays? This beautifully illustrated picture book teaches children, in very simple rhymes, the meaning or origin of many of the holidays that we celebrate in the United States. In addition, it encourages them to learn more about the days we celebrate. For preschoolers this book is the perfect answer to some of their questions. For school age children, this book is the perfect start for a class project or presentation. Recommended Ages: 4-8 |
